He served in multiple capacities and was especially committed to increasing campus dialogue surrounding race. Following an offer from another institution, Johnson decided to leave Gettysburg at the end of February 1996. Students expressed their displeasurebeginning in November due to the lack of staff and leadership at the Intercultural Resource Center. He was succeeded one year later, in January of 1997, byPeter Curry. Below is a picture of Johnson (back row, center) and his colleagues.
